Sharing some more videos

Just sharing a few videos I made in 2023.
Everything was done inside Ableton/EBO, and then exported via OBS/Blackhole.
Thanks again to the EBO team for such a great, fun product!
Cheers!

Curious would you ever do a breakdown video on some of the things you commonly do? Have you ever found a way to search youtube for source video via words in the transcript?

Hey! I have made some short guides on the more technical parts of my process (just so I don’t forget how to do it), but it would be fun to make videos for some things (how to split stems, creating Alpha channels, eSimpler, exports, etc.) I’ll definitely think about that… In the meantime, if you have any specific questions I would be happy to try to answer.

There used to be more search tools, but I think Youtube shut them down. Somehow this one is still going: https://filmot.com I find the 'Manual Subtitle" search seems to be more useful.

Curious how you start - like do you have a song in mind or find a vid with someone singing? Do you tend to strip out all the background music to just get the singer etc? Like honestly your stuff seems way more cohesive musically… when I’ve looked for songs that are just acapella or vocals only I’m getting way more modern stuff that I don’t even want to touch.

Thanks for the link - it’s helpful; I want to try to build up a song via the lyric but using talking heads

I often start with an idea or genre like ā€œHindi musicā€ or ā€œspace rockā€, and just start surfing. During the early part of the search there are usually a few clips that really appeal to me (usually because they are visually interesting and have a great sound or melody) and they start to become the musical ā€œthemeā€ of the track. Then as I continue to search, I’ll focus on finding samples that fit that theme. I definitely care about how the clips look, but I’m a little more focused on the sound/music while I collect the samples.

I’ve used stem splitters for a long time to isolate baselines, vocals, etc. I used to use some commercial products, but then moved to Spleeter and now Demucs (because free & open-source,) and they work nearly as well as the paid stuff. Depending on what instrument or sound I need from the video clip, I’ll split the audio, and then put it back together in Davinci Resolve (also gives me an opportunity to upscale or crop, and tune the color.) I use most of a clip’s original audio wherever possible, but I’ll often strip out drums or bass if it will clash with other samples.

That sounds like a great idea! You could also ā€˜tune’ the samples with transpose or a vocoder, and/or put them into drum racks with eSamplers. I’ve always thought it would be fun to create lyrics this way. Good luck!
